Pastor's Perspective: Family
Dear Calvary Family,
The greatest sense of belonging known to man is to be part of a family. Because many homes are broken because of death, divorce or separation, the desire to belong is often sought after in relationships that are ungodly or shallow and may cause even more isolation.
In this week's Galatians 4 study, we see God's heart for all of us to belong to Him, relate to Him, and to one another in the context of a family. Relating to God as a father, and to other people as siblings may be a hurdle for you to overcome, but this is certainly worth embracing.
A child does not earn it's birth into a physical family. Neither can we earn our birth into God's spiritual family, but many try. Or perhaps more relevant, is to accept your adoption, but then somehow feel you must perform to keep being that son or daughter, lest you lose it. You are a child of God, by faith, not by works, so rest in that today!
In a sense, our church family at CCF is part of another family, an affiliation of Calvary Chapel churches. Tonight in the Overflowing Cup, we are offering a movie night to help you better understand the beginnings of the great Jesus movement where Calvary Chapel grew out of. The 70's were difficult times as a country, but God stirred a great revival out of which our movement was born. Join us tonight at 7:00 to watch "Jesus Revolution", the history of Calvary Chapel! It's not all pretty, but God's grace shines brightly.
June 2nd - June 23, I will be taking a vacation. You will be encouraged by others stepping up in preaching, teaching and leadership. Pastor Dawson will be writing the next 3 perspectives and one of the Sundays will be led by our youth!
Much love, see you on Sunday
Pastor Marv
