Pastor’s Perspective: “The Place of Refuge”
Dear Calvary Family,
In Joshua chapters 19–21, we will study the final land divisions for each tribe, as well as the cities given to the Levites, with special attention to the six cities of refuge. The Levites were not given legal ownership of land but were stewards of grazing lands with housing on the outskirts of 48 different cities scattered throughout the land. Of these 48 cities, six were designated as places of refuge. Anyone could flee to one of these six cities for protection until a trial could be arranged and justice carried out.
In Hebrews 6:18–19, we too are invited to run to Jesus, our city of refuge:
"We who have strong encouragement, who have fled for refuge in laying hold of the hope set before us. This hope we have as an anchor for the soul…”
The place of refuge God has for you today is a safe place to run to—but you must choose to enter this rest, His rest.
The promises of God are enduring and completely trustworthy. They truly become an anchor for the weary or wandering soul. May we each enter the city of refuge and receive the most incredible gifts of mercy and grace from the King of all kings, shoring us up in all things.
This Sunday is Palm Sunday, ushering in the most dramatic scene in human history—the crucifixion and death of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! His resurrection to eternal life brought hope and healing to all mankind. Have you received this gift from God?
This coming week offers several wonderful opportunities for us to gather:
· Palm Sunday morning worship
· Tuesday morning and evening GLOW for women, and the 6:30 AM devo for men
· Wednesday evening discipleship for all ages
· Good Friday Seder Meal
· Resurrection Sunday celebration!
He is Risen!
