Pastor's Perspective: Is God Pleased?

Dear Church Family,

I would think that most Christians desire to please God, but do we know what pleases Him? Is He pleased with us when we do good things, and displeased when we do bad? Do unbelievers please Him when they do good? Hebrews 11:6 tells us that without faith it is impossible to please God. Sometimes our good deeds are only to please man or to make us look good to others, apart from faith, these good deeds are without eternal reward.

Pleasing God in what we do is related to the condition of the heart. We learn in Heb 11:6 that God is a rewarder of those who seek Him. If our desire is to please Jesus, our works become precious in His sight. The diaper changes, prepared meals, a hard day’s work, paying a bill, serving in the children’s ministry, cleaning the church, making a meal, these can all be pleasing to the Lord, or not. How about we unite them with faith and do it all for Jesus!

Galatians 3 will be the scripture for our Sunday sermon. The 2nd half of verse 11, “The just, shall live, by faith” became the key passage for the Great Reformation started in 1517 when Martin Luther nailed the 95 Theses to the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg Germany, condemning the practice of selling indulgences, or paying off your sins. Martin Luther claimed that only faith in Jesus Christ can cleanse the sinner.

May we all prepare our hearts and minds for another life changing time as we gather around the holy Word of God, seeking God with all diligence! And may we better grasp the matchless grace of God as it regards our salvation, as well as our continued sanctification, by faith.

It’s hard to believe that Memorial Day weekend is upon us. May we all remember all those who died on the battlefields around the world on our behalf. Freedom from the strong grip of evil dictators and rulers will always be a fight until the right king is in place, the King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Jesus the Christ! Thank you to those who are currently serving in our armed forces and blessing upon the families who lost loved ones in the past.

Much love to all, see you on Sunday!

Pastor Marv
