Pastor's Perspective: I Believe
Dear Calvary Family,
Genesis 1:27 declares one of the great mysteries of humanity: “God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” We have been created as image bearers of the eternal God of the universe! God is a spirit being; man is both spirit and flesh. Jesus Christ took on flesh to fully become one of us, and we receive the Holy Spirit to enable us to commune with God. We are created with a longing to worship Him.
But sadly, much of the world is lost, with no relationship with the Redeemer of our souls. Sin has broken this relationship. Yet, the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ have brought hope and life back to humanity. Blessed are the image bearers who believe!
Many refer to the week leading up to Resurrection Sunday as Holy Week. The time between Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem and His resurrection the following Sunday accomplished the greatest mission in the history of mankind: redemption and eternal hope! The shed blood on the cross of Calvary is payment in full for the wrath we deserved. However, it must be applied individually to each soul by faith. Blessed are the image bearers who believe in the saving work of Jesus Christ!
Yesterday was Good Friday and we gathered to partake of the Passover Seder. No, this is not a requirement of the New Testament Church, but we willingly celebrate in remembrance of our Lord’s last Passover meal in the upper room—and the greatest expression of love that followed: giving up His life, taking on our sin in exchange for our eternal freedom. Blessed are the disciples who believe! We plan to study true freedom this Sunday morning from John chapter 20.
This Sunday is the greatest reason for celebration and joy for the one who believes. But for the unbeliever, do not be satisfied with another year of chocolate bunnies and enduring family tensions. Rather, join the family of God by faith. May the peace of our Lord Jesus Christ rest upon your heart, and may the joy of your deliverance—and the eternal hope of your calling—completely transform your gatherings.
One way or another, a seat will be provided for you at CCF this Sunday. But most importantly, is your seat reserved at the marriage supper of the Lamb?
See you soon!
