Pastor's Perspective: Cling to the Lord

Dear Calvary Family,
We are nearing the end of our Joshua study. In chapters 22-23 we transition to his last words before dying. Last words often carry extra weight, especially when one knows the time of departure has come, as did Joshua. Along with his admonition in 23:8 to cling to the Lord, in chapter 23 he also makes these bold statements; Be very firm…, So take diligent heed…, and know with certainty. All these phrases help us grasp the urgency of this upcoming study on Sunday!

Of all the passionate statements in this chapter, let’s focus on “Cling to the Lord”. The word cling speaks for itself, and in many cases seems almost obnoxious. It involves following closely, to stick, cleave to, and to join. It’s as if any little gap in this relationship means victory or defeat. Are we walking closely enough to the Shepherd to hear His voice? This is the secret to experiencing joy, and peace of God. Clinging to our Savior also keeps us walking in the light with moral integrity.

What a blessing it was to celebrate our Lords resurrection last week! May we continue walking in the power of His resurrection, with victory over sin, and surrender to His word.
This Spring on May 9th, we are beginning a new monthly gathering in the Overflowing Cup called “2nd Fridays”. The second Friday (each month) gathering will be a public gathering open to our community and will involve live and recorded music while enjoying fellowship with specialty coffees and seasonal drinks offered for suggested donations. To play or sing at these gatherings, you will be signing up on the church app. Who wants to take on Jordan Yoder in a game of checkers? All while listening to someone play the harmonica, electric guitar or some 4-part harmony…! The possibilities are overflowing.

See you on Sunday
Pastor Marv
