Pastor’s Perspective: I am Saved, Now What?

Dear Calvary Family,

Last week we celebrated a beautiful baptism after reading of the birth of the church in Acts 2. We concluded in verse 41 where 3000 people were saved and the church as we know it today begins.

The very next verse lays a solid foundation for continued discipleship for every believer in Jesus. We studied in verse 36 that, as a child of God, Jesus is our Savior, forgiving our sins, and He is our Lord. The Lordship of Jesus Christ over our life can be a struggle for us as we learn to trust God more. The surrender of control and submission to God's Word is the reality of being born again. The 4 steps of discipleship in verse 42 will be a tremendous help to us.

Water baptism is a beautiful expression of this surrender, dying to self, and rising to newness of life. May our faith grow as we depend on the Holy Spirit to change us and lead us!

After the service last week, we had several requests for more opportunities to be baptized. So this coming Sunday, the CCF cattle trough will be filled and ready for you. Bring a dry set of clothes and a heart full of faith and hope.

VBS is just a month away! Our volunteers are preparing for this wonderful outreach. Now all we need is for all of us to invite the children of our community to join our church family for this expected revival. We will take the children  back to Genesis and teach the foundation of our existence in the garden of Eden, then the fall of mankind, and God's gracious plan of restoration through the cross.

This weekend, as we celebrate Memorial day, may we all remember those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom. At the birth of this nation, we were delivered from the strong arm of religious oppression. We have since been protected from other evil regimes throughout our history who want to see this country destroyed. At this time, we are in a period of inner moral decay that seems more dangerous than the threat of Iran or N Korea.

May the church rise up to be a beacon of hope, and may the light of the gospel shine brightly upon a lost and confused culture. Let's trust God for the winds of revival to blow upon this nation, from sea to shining sea! May this weekend truly be memorable.

See you on Sunday

Pastor Marv
