Pastor’s Perspective: Other Side of the Tracks
Back in the day when the railroad went through most every significant town in America, the rail often divided the town according to social or economic statis. The term “growing up on the wrong side of the tracks” was often associated with drugs or poverty. To the Jew of Jesus' day, the Gentiles were largely on the wrong side of the tracks. Beginning in Acts 9:32, we are given 3 stories that God uses to reach across the tracks with the powerful message of the gospel. The ministry of hope and healing by the power of the Holy Spirit is now reaching the far corners of the globe! Do you still see social or economic lines dividing our town? Does that limit you in sharing the gospel or serving people? Jesus said he came for the sick, the downtrodden, and the hopeless, bringing light into the darkness. If you think you are on the privileged side of the tracks, and you plan to stay there, you may be missing the greatest work of God. Pride comes before a fall, leave it in your past!
This Sunday, Aug 4th, is family Sunday. We will not be sharing a luncheon together this month, but the children will still be in the sanctuary and have story time with Pastor Marv. I hope all your children can come for this special Sunday of the month. We will have the Overflowing Cup, the youth room, and nursing moms’ room open for livestream if you need a place to go with a child. We believe this time together with your children in the sanctuary is vital in discipleship and keep us all better connected.
“Israel in the Spotlight”- On Wed evening, August 14th, we have a special evening set aside to discuss the church’s relationship to Israel. Here are some of the topics we will address:
We plan to have this gathering in the Overflowing Cup. The evening will include sharing and song from Michael & Teresa Thomas, who serve as missionaries to the Jewish people. Please welcome a neighbor or co-worker who may not be familiar with the Biblical teaching concerning Israel.
See you on Sunday!

“Israel in the Spotlight”- On Wed evening, August 14th, we have a special evening set aside to discuss the church’s relationship to Israel. Here are some of the topics we will address:
- Why is Israel, such a small piece of real estate, always in the news and often under attack?
- What promises are yet to be fulfilled concerning the people of Israel and the land itself?
- Why is Israel falsely described as an occupier?
- Why is it important that the church supports Israel today?
- What is behind the growing antisemitism happening around the globe today?
We plan to have this gathering in the Overflowing Cup. The evening will include sharing and song from Michael & Teresa Thomas, who serve as missionaries to the Jewish people. Please welcome a neighbor or co-worker who may not be familiar with the Biblical teaching concerning Israel.
See you on Sunday!
