Pastor’s Perspective: What do you seek?

Dear Calvary Family,

In this amazing journey of life, choices for both good and evil abound. America is still the land of opportunity, but that goes both ways. When the heart turns rebellious, the desire for new and creative ways to express evil and resist what is reasonable, kind, and good is astounding.

The culture in the USA today is charged. The decision to publicly follow Jesus Christ is a hot topic of discussion. The self-comforting, lukewarm, middle ground of a child of God is ending. It is time to boldly declare your faith in Jesus—or fall away into irrelevance, or something worse.

This takes us back to Jesus’ day, when pressure from the worldly arm of Rome and the rise of self-focused Jewish religion stifled God-fearing faith.

Jesus comes on the scene and asks a question that still reverberates in our minds today: “What do you seek?” Of all the opportunities, dreams, and aspirations of life, what drives you forward? Are you anchored by core values, or drifting on the waves of popular opinion?

Time is running out before you drown in the waters of compromise, jump into bed with the devil, or make peace with the eternal God. I pray that many will join us on this journey through the Gospel of John as we answer the question Jesus asked two of His followers: “What do you seek?”

Our services are filling up and overflowing, but the harvest is still plentiful. Come to church an hour early—before the 10:00 service—for a time of prayer and intercession (9:00–9:45 AM). As seats fill in around you in the sanctuary, embrace what God is doing and extend rich grace and hospitality. We do have several overflow areas available, but most importantly, we are gathering in obedience to God’s command and receiving blessings for devotion to His Word!

Enjoy this early fall, rainy weekend, and embrace a season of change!

See you soon,
Pastor Marv
