Elder's Perspective

We are beyond blessed to have the Word of God in our Savior Jesus, the Word of God in our hearts, and the Word of God in our hands. Scripture—the library of books we call the Bible—is our most treasured possession on this earth. Scripture tells us the story of Creation, the story of our great Shepherd Jesus the Christ coming the first time, and the story of Him coming to the earth a second time. Scripture tells us all we need to know for life in Him and how to love others here on this earth—amazing!

Our LORD used about 40 men to write Scripture over a period of about 1,500 years. These men wrote in three languages—Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek. Everything they wrote was given to them by our LORD—amazing! Scripture has many writers, but one Divine Editor.

Each writer had his own gifts, talents, and personality (just like you). It is amazing how our LORD uses each of us in our perfect uniqueness. As readers, we see the distinct perspectives of these writers and the unique ways our LORD speaks to us through them.

The Apostle John tells us in his firsthand Gospel account that Jesus is the Son of God and the true Passover Lamb. Believers are thankful for the four Gospel accounts. Each writer—Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John—looks at the life of Jesus and His purpose from a unique perspective.

This Sunday, we will open the precious Word of God together in John’s Gospel. We will study and focus on Chapter 1, considering how verses 19–34 fit into the chapter, which serves as the introduction to HIS story through the Apostle John. Study this passage with the perspective that Jesus is the true Passover Lamb of God. Study also with the perspective that our LORD used a man like John the Baptizer to proclaim and prepare the way for the Christ.

We see the character of God the Father and Jesus the Christ on every page of this library of books believers call the Bible. May we come to John 1 and be inspired by the Baptizer, that we too might be used by our LORD in the specific ways He desires for each of us. We are challenged in these verses to have a renewed love in our hearts for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Keep up your great work for Him this week as you shine the light and truth of our LORD to all around you. Thank you, thank you for inspiring me to do the same.

With much love for you,
your brother,
Robert H
