Career on Hold
Dear Calvary Family,
The call to rise and build the walls of Jerusalem echoed throughout the hills of Judea—some opposed it, some watched from a distance, and some showed up for the work.
All of Nehemiah 3 simply lists those who served, commenting briefly on their attitudes, efforts, and what they had to leave behind—including careers—to be involved in this task.
Do we understand that just because something is good or has value doesn’t mean it’s the best thing for us to do? In my experience raising children, many things were good for their involvement, but what else might Sherri and I have been overlooking on their behalf because of it? Sports, or even other Christian activities in our community, can be fun, engaging, and beneficial—but at what expense, and at what sacrifice?
When the call went out to rebuild the wall, the commitment required at least 52 days. My hat is off to the names listed in Nehemiah 3, and I believe God chose to honor them for their extraordinary willingness to rise and build. Pay close attention to what the Holy Spirit reveals to you as we work our way through this passage.
For those brave enough to take a front-row seat observing the wall building, you may be rewarded with the honored task from heaven for the next build in God's kingdom on earth.
This weekend kicks off with some wonderful opportunities for fellowship—see if any of these fit into your family's priorities. Keep Sunday morning a non-negotiable, as this is our primary family gathering that God asks us not to neglect. Then, join the others if you can!
Tonight: Second Friday – Music & Coffee Outreach in the Overflowing Cup. Stop by anytime between 5:30–9:00 PM.
Saturday Night: Both Calvary men's softball teams will be playing other churches at the sports arena behind Prince Edward High School—games at 6:30 and 8:15 PM.
See you on Sunday,
Pastor Marv
