8/11 Pastor's Perspective
Dear Calvary Family,
Thanks to so many of you that helped make our family vacation a reality. Our time off and trip to South Dakota were a blessing, and I consider the experience very valuable.
This week we will look deeper at the value of things and relationships. How much value you place on something greatly affects how respond to it, or care for it. Not much in this life can be deeply treasured. Many times, about the time we get attached to something, or even someone, it’s gone. This often brings about significant mourning, a sense of loss, or emotional rejection. Who of us have not experienced some of this, many of you to a great degree. My prayer for each of us, is to let God minister to our pain and loss, and may we have a fuller understanding of the great love of our Heavenly Father towards us, and the tremendous value of knowing Jesus personally. This will be the focus of our teaching this Sunday morning from Philippians 3:7-14.
Summertime is zipping right along. Our church softball teams are enjoying some great competition in the Farmville Men’s modified fastpitch league here in town. Games are played each Friday and Saturday evening at the Farmville Sports Complex behind the High School, at 1328 Zion Hill Rd, Farmville. Game time is 7:00 & 8:30 both Fri and Sat. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy a night of entertainment and community fellowship, go Young Guns and Warriors! Schedules are available in the foyer.
Our Overflowing Cup build-out just needs a few finishing touches yet. We plan to install a nice outdoor sign above the entrance door and a blown glass neon sign behind the coffee bar, this should complete phase one. In the future, as the Lord provides the funds, we would like to set up a bookstore, and purchase some furnishings and specialty coffee equipment. To date we have spent $123,100 on the building project, and $18,205.00 on needs such as IT, projector, screen, and sound equipment. This has all been paid out of our CCF savings account. Our building fund has been set up to replenish the savings account before beginning phase two. To date we have received $90,196.98 in the building fund. Thanks to the many donations made towards this beautiful addition, we are thankful to remain debt free.
We are planning an Overflowing Cup building dedication service for Sunday evening, September 17th, at 6:00 PM. The leadership team will be sharing vision for the use of the Overflowing Cup, as well as possible ministry and serving opportunities, a Q&A time, and ending with a prayer of dedication to the Lord. May the Overflowing Cup be a fruitful place of overflowing ministry for Jesus. Bring a snack to share during the fellowship time after the prayer & share!
Blessings to all, see you on Sunday!
Pastor Marv
