Pastor's Perspective: "Lessons from a good king"

Dear Calvary Family,

To me, July has always been the heart of the Summer season. The American flag and hot dogs are a great tradition of celebrating the signing of the Declaration of Independence from England. The forming of any nation has always included bloody battlefields, valor and courage. God watches over these battles, giving sovereign oversight with many surprising outcomes. God has blessed us in many ways in these 246 years since John Hancock's first signature. We have been an imperfect, but tremendously blessed country! Join me in praying for another great revival to sweep this nation, turning the hearts of many to the Lord our God.

King Jehoshaphat was a good king of Judah. When he faced the enemies of his day, he bowed his head with his face to the ground and sought the Lord. He encouraged the people in 2 Chronicles 20:20 "...put your trust in the Lord your God, and you will be established. Put your trust in His prophets and succeed." He also encouraged the singing of songs of worship to God, inspiring and encouraging God's people in the strong arm of God to deliver. This is needed in our day as well. In a world of negativity and gloom, may we not overlook the good work of God in our day. May we rejoice in the recent Supreme Court decisions that honor Christian values and pray for more in the days ahead. Remember, victories and change always come with a cost. May God go before us, and may we all follow with courage and valor.

Please pray for the many leaders that will be serving in my place as I take the month of July as a sabbatical. I am so looking forward to some travel into the back country of Montana, and enjoy a month of refreshment from the Lord. I am so very thankful for all that God has done for me personally in these past 10 months. I am also full of amazement of the good work of God among us as a church family! Praise God from whom all blessings flow, may grace and truth abound.

Robert Harper will be writing an Elder's Perspective, during my absence in July. I am certain you will be blessed and encouraged!

Signing off for a month,

Pastor Marv
