Pastor's Perspective: "The Cost"

Dear Calvary Family,

I have really enjoyed hearing all of your stories of thanksgiving throughout November. And our Thanksgiving service this past Wednesday evening was such a blessing! Yesterday I heard the story concerning a grandchild of mine who was so excited and wanted to put Christmas decorations up before Thanksgiving. Her daddy said they should celebrate Thanksgiving first. To this Elizabeth replied, "I am celebrating Thanksgiving, I am thankful for Christmas"! Yes, the Christmas decorations went up before Thanksgiving in that home this year. And yes, we should all be thankful for Christmas!

As we approach December, it would be very appropriate for our church family to take a close look at our Christmas celebrations. May we reflect back on the simplicity of that first Christmas, where God became Immanuel in the flesh. May our celebrations model: the reverence and song of Mary, the worship of the Shepherds, the singing of the Angels, the thankfulness of Anna, and the anticipation of Simeon!

Today is known as Black Friday, when the world looks at the cost of things or the profits in the pocket. Well, in our study in Luke 14 this Sunday, we too will be looking at the cost of something, but most assured, it will be worth the price!

Much love to each of you, and happy holidays!
